For 12 hours tomorrow polls around Texas will open to settle the unsettled primary election contests of both political parties. These elections matter, but often don?t draw much attention. This means the vote of anyone who participates is magnified in importance. After all, in many cases the winner of the primary contest is unopposed in November.
There are run-off elections up and down the ballot, in races for justices of the peace, district attorney and county commissioner. These local races are incredibly important. Not only do local taxes account for a large portion of your tax burden, but these offices carry a lot more power than people realize. In these last hours remaining before the April 8 run-off, I hope each of us look at the run-off elections and participate. A quick note about the rules of a run-off. If you voted in the March primary, you can only vote in that party?s run-off. If you didn?t vote in the primary, but were registered, you can vote in either party run-off. Go make a difference! |
