Grassroots. Politics. Have you ever given much thought to how those two words came to be used in the same sentence? Mid-week, I was trying to get my front yard presentable. I noticed that my flower beds once again seemed to have a random bunches of grass growing in them. As I pulled on them, big chunks of soil came up, bound together with delicate roots strengthened by their sheer numbers. Out of that mix grew long tendrils of tough roots which lead to another clump of grass. As this process was repeated over and over again, I thought of how appropriate the political term of “grassroots political organization” seemed to be. Small groups of people, bound together by a common ideal, working collectively with other likeminded groups towards a common goal. Grassroots! Politics!

Totally out of the blue, a few days later I was approached to be the coordinator for Mike Huckabee's HuckPAC in Utah. I have accepted the invitation. As you know, in the last election, we conservatives had our hats handed to us. We were out organized at all levels and the results are evident nationwide. We cannot have that happen again. Mike Huckabee and the membership of HuckPAC is working on revitalizing the national conservative infrastructure in preparation for 2010 and 2012 elections. A grassroots volunteer organization must be a part of that revitalization and it must include our own state of Utah. I am asking you to join with us in that effort.
